Now Portal Beam & Kio Cloud API Does Even More with Seat-Level Occupancy & Footfall Traffic Counting

Table of contents

At Kontakt.io, we constantly enhance our solutions to support a growing landscape of building insight use cases. With the release of two new Portal Beam capabilities, we can now deliver seat-level occupancy and traffic measurement building insights. To support these advancements, we have also released new features and enhancements to our Kio Cloud platform, improving the performance of our occupancy and traffic-counting compute capabilities, adding more Smart Location real-time data visibility, and redesigning the Portal Beam deployment workflow to make setup simpler and faster.

The Portal Beam is a 9-in-1 cloud-enabled sensor platform for quantifying rooms and delivering building insights in real-time. It’s the only product in the market that enables all indoor spatial intelligence use-cases from understanding granular and privacy compliant space occupancy to tracking of identifiable assets and individuals. By capturing detailed digital fingerprints of its environment in real-time, a Portal Beam is able to provide the data needed to make better, more informed decisions about office & staff management, space utilization and planning, and other important operational factors.

Discover The Portal Beam

Portal Beam & Kio Cloud API metadata illustrates indoor interactions between equipment, people and spaces, making a number of use cases possible, including:

  • Spatial awareness. Understand how your space is used, where bottlenecks form, how much of your capacity you’re using and more.
  • Environmental awareness. Track and respond to variations outside the norm for temperature, lighting conditions, humidity, and air quality for a safer and more comfortable work environment.
  • Location awareness. Track the number and locations of multiple physical assets, employees and more in real time for live insights into occupancy rates and where important devices and machines are.

Portal Beam is used in a wide variety of facilities to do everything – from providing navigation assistance, detecting the presence of occupants and visitors without violating individual privacy, quickly identifying the location of important assets in healthcare contexts where every minute counts, monitoring occupancy rates, and much more.

Now, we’re expanding Portal Beam’s already comprehensive range of functionalities with two new capabilities:

Seat-Level Occupancy Monitoring

Kio Cloud API

Right from launch, Portal Beam delivered insights into how people occupy spaces by tracking the occupancy of buildings, floors, and rooms without infringing on privacy using a thermal camera sensor to count the number of people in a given space.

Now, optimizing space utilization is even easier since the Portal Beam can also monitor occupancy at the seat level. Getting live, real-time information on occupancy rates in shared workspaces, hotdesks, and other individual units in office spaces is just a click away. With the data insights provided by the Cloud, you can improve building layouts, workspace designs, department space allocation decisions and execute dynamic workplace strategies.

It can measure the occupancy of cloud-defined multi-seat workstations in enclosed rooms or open spaces. Resulting in detailed, seat-level utilization data. When in Seat-Level Occupancy Mode, a Portal Beam measures the count of workstation seats that are occupied and not occupied.

Now it’s easy to measure the utilization of specific seats in multi-person workstations and show the availability of specific seats in multi-desk workstations.

Building Footfall Traffic Counting

Kio Cloud API

With Portal Beam’s footfall traffic capability, you can now get access to data showing general traffic patterns in spaces of every With the Kio Cloud and Portal Beam’s footfall traffic mode, you can now measure traffic levels of buildings, floors, elevators, escalators, corridors, waiting rooms or public rest-rooms.

Simply install one Portal Beam at the ceiling, draw a line counter in the cloud, and start counting any person entering or exiting the space. You can add multiple Portal Beams to the same space to keep precise counts of people within an area of interest.

Portal Beam is now an even stronger platform to support IoT solutions

Portal Beam’s mission remains to transform IoT building signals into useful information.  It supports a range of use cases that quantify rooms and buildings, using open API and free apps for unlimited innovation and customization.

Portal Beam leverages the WiFi network you already have in place and requires no cables, makes no mess, and is up and running after a simple installation with no specialist knowledge needed.

With a four-year battery life, the cost of ownership is minimized and subscribers get all the cloud-based apps they need to turn data into actionable insights and can build custom dashboards on top of our apps.

The metadata that Portal Beam collects makes it possible to deliver digital building services that measure, analyze, and predict how people utilize space and equipment, thus creating safer, human-centric and more productive indoor care environments.

By providing high-resolution data that captures people, equipment, and space interactions, property managers can optimize workflows, reduce carbon footprints,  calibrate true real estate needs and much more.
