The company

Since day one, we’ve been innovators

Kontakt.io was founded in 2013 with the goal of helping the visually impaired navigate public spaces more easily, and experience cultural wonders with the same appreciation as anyone else.

We developed something that you would call today a proximity solution—but it was months before Apple released the iBeacon profile using Bluetooth Low Energy. That’s how our innovation began. Since then we’ve adopted technology like iBeacon, Eddystone, and more into our smart hardware system, and we continue to push the borders of what’s possible with bluetooth proximity devices.

Today, we’re a leading global provider of proximity technologies. We continue our initial mission to make the world a bit better place, by making objects and devices smarter so they can enhance the quality of everyone’s life. We keep exploring the technology and pushing its boundaries further than anyone would have imagined.

We’ve developed a couple of types of beacon hardware and the world’s most secure software, but that’s not all! Seeing the potential of the technology and already working on next solutions, we must say—the best in beacons is yet to come. And we aim to be a big part of it.

Our history

  • March 2013

    The beginning

Szymon Niemczura, Rafał Janicki, Tomasz Kołek, and Tomasz Koźmiński are working out the way to help the visually impaired enjoy museum tours. Having discovered their solution’s potential, they set up a company to provide the technology to others. Kontakt.io arises.

Bluetooth 4.0 and iBeacon join the game

iBeacon profile solves a lot of the pain points in our home-built solution, so we reverse-engineer the format and get it running on our hardware. Soon after, we launch a pre-order of development kits, becoming a part of emerging beacosystem.

    Cloud Beacon premiere

We see the future of Internet of Things tied strongly to the cloud. To make that happen, we introduce pre-orders for Cloud Beacon. By providing security and monitoring features without an application installed in a smart device, it takes proximity to the next level.
